Chapter 8 - The Clean Slate

The sleek glass doors of Julian’s downtown office slid open with a quiet hum.
He stepped off the private elevator, carrying a renewed sense of absolute purpose.
His executive assistant, Marcus, was already waiting at the front reception desk.
Marcus held a thick stack of finalized contracts and a blinking digital tablet.
"Good morning, Mr. Vance," Marcus said, his tone highly professional but gently sympathetic.
"I have already drafted the public cancellation notices for the upcoming wedding."
Julian walked briskly into his spacious corner office, overlooking the bustling city.
"Thank you, Marcus," Julian replied firmly.
"Make sure all the large deposits are fully forfeited to the small business vendors."
"They should not have to suffer financially for my personal mistakes."
Marcus nodded approvingly, quickly noting the generous instruction on his tablet.
"And what about the society reporters calling downstairs?" Marcus asked cautiously.
Julian sat down in his heavy leather chair and folded his hands on the mahogany desk.
"Issue a single, incredibly brief public statement," Julian instructed calmly.
"State only that the engagement has been permanently terminated due to irreconcilable differences."
"If they press for further details, politely hang up the phone."
He was entirely done playing games with people who thrived on toxic drama.
His personal phone suddenly buzzed with a frantic text message from Clara's number.
It was a long, desperate paragraph begging for a private meeting to negotiate a financial settlement.
Julian didn't even bother reading past the very first demanding sentence.
He firmly tapped the bright screen, blocking her number completely and permanently.
The toxic chapter of his life was officially closed for good.
Instead of dwelling on the past, he opened a fresh document on his computer desktop.
He began drafting a massive philanthropic donation to the local children's hospital.
He wanted to redirect all the money he had set aside for the fake nursery into something truly meaningful.
Real families were fighting incredibly hard medical battles just a few blocks away.
He could use his vast wealth to actually help children who desperately needed support.
A quiet knock on the glass office door interrupted his focused typing.
Sarah walked in, holding two fresh cups of iced coffee from his favorite local cafe.
"I thought you might need some friendly reinforcements today," Sarah smiled warmly.
May you like
Julian leaned back in his heavy chair, feeling a genuine smile spread across his face.
"You always know exactly what I need, Sarah," Julian said gratefully.
