Chapter 1: The Name That Changed Everything

“…Ms. Cassidy Hale has arrived.”

The voice echoed through the house like a verdict.

Silence fell.

Not the polite kind—the suffocating, bone-deep kind that makes people aware of every breath they take.

Brendan’s laughter died mid-exhale.

Diane’s wine glass trembled slightly in her hand.

Jessica blinked, confused, her smile fading as if someone had quietly erased it.

I stood slowly.

Water dripped from the ends of my hair, pooling at my feet.

“Cassidy… Hale?” Brendan repeated, his voice uncertain now.

I didn’t answer.

Instead, I watched as three men in black suits stepped inside, followed by Arthur.

Calm. Precise. Ruthless.

“Ms. Hale,” Arthur said, his voice firm but respectful, “Protocol 7 has been initiated.”

Diane scoffed, trying to regain control. “Excuse me? You people can’t just walk into my home—”

Arthur didn’t even look at her.

“Effective immediately,” he continued, “all Morrison Group accounts have been frozen. Ongoing contracts suspended. Internal audit initiated.”

The room seemed to tilt.

“What?” Brendan snapped. “That’s impossible. I run Morrison Group!”

Arthur’s gaze finally shifted—to him.

May you like

“No,” he said evenly. “You don’t.”

And for the first time that night, Brendan looked afraid.
