Chapter 7: Safe Harbor

Julian wasted no time. True to his word, an armored black SUV idled by the service entrance within the half-hour. Clara, clutching a modest duffel bag, slid into the backseat. Julian stood by the door, handing her a sealed envelope.
"The keys to an apartment in the financial district, fully secured," Julian said. "And the paperwork for Leo's clinic. It's already been paid. Do not answer any calls from unknown numbers."
"Thank you, Mr. Julian," Clara said, a tear finally escaping her eye. For the first time in years, the crushing weight on her chest began to lift.

As the taillights faded down the long driveway, Julian pulled his phone from his pocket. He bypassed his regular contacts and dialed a direct, encrypted line.
"Vance," Julian said when the deep voice answered. Vance was his grandfather’s old head of security, a man whose loyalty was entirely to the family name, not the corporate board. "I need you at the estate. Bring the forensic IT team. The breach is coming from inside the house."
