Chapter 1: The Name She Buried

“…that she was never meant to be here.”
Khloe’s voice rang sharp and clear.
But before the laughter could follow—
A voice cut through the silence.
“Careful, Ms. Vance. You might be speaking about someone far above your understanding.”
The ballroom doors opened.
Not loudly. Not dramatically.
But with authority.
Heads turned.
Three men in dark tailored suits stepped inside first—security, unmistakable. Behind them walked an older man with silver hair, posture straight as legacy itself.
Harrison Van Allen.
The air shifted.
Even those who didn’t know his face felt it.
Power didn’t need introduction.
“Elara.”
He didn’t raise his voice.
He didn’t need to.
Elara froze.
She hadn’t heard that tone in years.
Not since she walked away.
Her fingers trembled slightly.
“…Dad?”
Gasps rippled quietly across the room.
Marcus turned pale.
Khloe blinked.
“Van… Allen?” someone whispered near the bar.
The name spread like wildfire.
Harrison’s eyes moved slowly from Elara’s tear-streaked face… to Marcus… then to Khloe.
Measured.
Cold.
Final.
“I leave my daughter alone for a few years,” he said calmly, “and this is what the world dares to offer her?”

No one spoke.
Because no one dared.
