Khloe laughed suddenly.
Sharp. Defensive.
“This is ridiculous. You’re all acting like she’s some queen just because of her family.”
Elara turned toward her.
“No,” she said gently.
“I’m not powerful because of my family.”
She stepped closer.
“I’m powerful because I survived without them… and now I don’t have to anymore.”
Khloe’s confidence cracked.
“You think this changes anything? Marcus loves me.”
Elara tilted her head slightly.
“Does he?”
She looked at Marcus.
He said nothing.
