CHAPTER 3: THE TRUTH NO ONE EXPECTED

The next morning, I walked into the security office.

Preston was already there.

So were my parents.

Of course they were.

My father stood tall, arms crossed. My mother avoided my eyes. Preston leaned back in his chair, trying to look relaxed—but his fingers tapped restlessly against his leg.

Daniel dimmed the lights.

The footage began.

There was the bridal table. Guests laughing. Champagne flowing.

Then Preston appeared on screen.

Not frantic.

Not searching.

Calm.

He picked up his phone… looked around… and slipped it into Sophie’s denim jacket while it hung on the back of her chair.

The room went silent.

Even breathing felt too loud.

The footage continued.

Ten minutes later, Preston marched up, played the victim, and “found” the phone exactly where he had hidden it.

Frame by frame.

Lie by lie.

Exposed.

My mother gasped.

My father didn’t move.

May you like

And Preston—

Preston went pale.
