Chapter 4: Healing Begins

Days passed.
Noah’s arm slowly improved. The inflammation subsided, and the puncture wounds began to heal.
But the deeper healing was quieter.
More fragile.
Daniel stayed by his side constantly — reading to him, talking, listening.
Really listening.
“I thought I was going crazy,” Noah admitted one night. “Like… maybe it wasn’t real.”
Daniel’s chest tightened.
“You weren’t,” he said firmly. “You were brave. You trusted what you felt.”
Noah hesitated. “You didn’t believe me.”
Daniel closed his eyes for a moment.
“I know,” he said. “And I’ll regret that forever. But I’m going to spend the rest of my life making it up to you.”
Noah studied him.
Then slowly nodded.
That was forgiveness — small, but real.
Evelyn checked in regularly, her gentle care becoming something Noah trusted deeply.
“You did exactly the right thing,” she told him. “You spoke up. That matters.”
