The case moved quickly.

With medical evidence, Evelyn’s testimony, and Marissa’s own partial admission, the charges were undeniable.

Child endangerment.

Intentional harm.

Negligence.

Daniel sat in the courtroom, Noah beside him, as the verdict was read.

Guilty.

Marissa showed no emotion as she was led away.

But Daniel didn’t watch her.

He looked at Noah.

“It’s over,” he said softly.

Noah squeezed his hand.

“Good,” he whispered.

Outside the courthouse, the air felt lighter.
