Chapter 1: The Truth Beneath the Diamond

The room felt like it had stopped breathing.

The billionaire grandmother—Evelyn Laurent—stared at the young waitress as if she were seeing a ghost. Her heart pounded so loudly she could barely hear the murmurs spreading across the banquet hall.

“Say that again…” Evelyn whispered, her voice trembling.

The waitress swallowed hard, clutching the necklace instinctively. “My mother gave it to me… before I was taken.”

Evelyn’s knees nearly buckled.

“No…” she gasped. “That’s impossible. My granddaughter—my little Sofia—she was taken from us. We searched for years. There was nothing… no trace.”

The waitress’s eyes filled with confusion—and something deeper. Fear. Hope.

“I don’t remember much,” she said softly. “Just flashes. A big house… a woman singing to me… and this necklace. It’s all I’ve ever had.”

Evelyn reached out slowly, her hand shaking as she touched the pendant. Tears streamed freely now.

“This isn’t just any necklace,” she said. “Look inside.”

With trembling fingers, the waitress opened the tiny hidden clasp. Inside, engraved in delicate gold, were the words:

“Sofia — Always Loved.”

The waitress gasped, stepping back.

“That… that’s my name,” she whispered.

The world tilted.

And in that moment, twenty years of grief collided with a single, fragile hope.

“You’re my granddaughter,” Evelyn said, her voice breaking. “You’ve been alive this whole time…”
