Chapter 2: The Man Who Doesn’t Raise His Voice

Logan Thorne arrived without warning.
No announcement. No entourage.
Just the quiet opening of a private hospital door.
He didn’t ask questions right away.
He looked.
At Khloe, pale against the white sheets. At the doctor speaking in careful, measured tones. At the faint bruise forming beneath her ribs.
Then, finally, at the woman standing in the corner—now small, now uncertain.
“Step outside,” Logan said.
His voice wasn’t loud.
It didn’t need to be.
The hallway was empty when they faced each other. No witnesses. No cameras.
“You thought this would end something,” he said calmly.
The woman swallowed, trying to hold onto whatever confidence she had left.
“She’s not—”
Logan raised a hand slightly.
Not aggressive. Just final.
“Don’t.”
A pause.
Then softer, colder—
“You don’t get to decide what survives.”

There was no threat in his tone.
That was what made it worse.
