Chapter 3: What Almost Broke

The hours stretched into something shapeless.

Machines hummed. Lights stayed dim.

Khloe drifted in and out—not unconscious, not fully present. Logan sat beside her the entire time, one hand resting lightly over hers, as if anchoring her to something steady.

When she finally opened her eyes, it wasn’t dramatic.

Just a slow blink. A quiet return.

“You stayed,” she murmured.

“I said I would,” Logan replied.

A small pause.

Then—

“Is the baby…?”

Logan didn’t answer immediately.

Not because he didn’t know.

Because he chose his words carefully.

“The baby’s strong,” he said.

And for the first time since the gala, Khloe’s breathing changed.

Not easier.

But steadier.

She turned her head slightly, looking toward the window where the city lights blurred into soft gold streaks.

“I thought… for a second…”

“I know,” Logan said.

May you like

And he did.

Without needing her to finish.
