Chapter 2: What Was Hidden

Police sirens cut through the night minutes later.

Two officers entered, scanning the room before approaching Elena.

“That’s him,” she said, pointing at David. “And don’t let her leave.”

Rebecca’s face went white.

“What is this nonsense?” she snapped, but it sounded hollow now.

The officers separated everyone.

David tried to regain control.

“This is just a family disagreement—”

“Sir,” one officer interrupted, “we have multiple witnesses and video evidence.”

That’s when a young waitress stepped forward, her hands still shaking.

“She’s not trying to leave because of this,” she said, pointing at Rebecca. “She was already heading for the kitchen before the police were even called.”

Elena’s eyes narrowed.

“Search the kitchen,” she said.

Moments later, another officer returned—holding a small leather bag.

Inside?

Prescription bottles.

Different names.

Different addresses.

And a stack of documents.

Fake identities.
