Chapter 4: The Fall

Rebecca was led away in handcuffs.

She didn’t look proud anymore.

She looked small.

David stood frozen, as if his entire world had collapsed in a single night.

“Am I… being charged?” he asked weakly.

The officer’s response was simple.

“Assault. At minimum.”

Maya closed her eyes briefly.

Then she stood up.

No shaking.

No hesitation.

“I want to file a full report,” she said.

David looked at her, stunned.

“Maya… please. We can fix this.”

She shook her head.

“No,” she said. “You don’t fix something you never believed was broken.”

He reached for her—

but she stepped back.
