Part 2: The Silence Breaks

The sudden silence hit the room like a shockwave.
Madison sat up. “What the hell, Ethan?”
Courtney frowned. “We were watching that.”
Vanessa finally looked up from her phone. “Seriously?”
Diane didn’t move at first. She simply lowered her drink slowly, her expression tightening. “What exactly do you think you’re doing?”
Ethan didn’t raise his voice.
That made it worse.
“I’m ending this.”
Something in his tone made all three sisters go quiet.
Diane’s eyes narrowed. “Ending what?”
Ethan looked at each of them, one by one. No hesitation. No softness left.
“This… situation. This lie we’ve all been living in.”
Vanessa scoffed. “Oh my God, don’t be dramatic.”
But Ethan didn’t even look at her.
“You’ve had my wife—eight months pregnant—doing everything for you. Cooking. Cleaning. Serving you. While you sit here like guests in a hotel I pay for.”
Diane set her glass down harder this time. “Watch your tone.”
“No,” Ethan said calmly. “You’re going to watch yours. Because tonight is the last night any of you treat Olivia like she’s beneath you.”
Courtney crossed her arms. “She said she didn’t mind.”
Ethan’s jaw tightened.
“She minded. She was just too afraid to say it.”
The room shifted.
For the first time, there was discomfort.
Diane stood slowly. “You’re overreacting. She’s part of this family. Families help each other.”
Ethan took a step closer.
“Then why is she the only one helping?”

No one answered.
And that silence said everything.
