Part 5: What Real Love Looks Like

By midnight, the house was quiet again.

Suitcases gone.

Voices gone.

Tension gone.

Ethan stood at the bottom of the stairs for a long moment before walking up.

When he entered the bedroom, Olivia was still awake.

Her eyes searched his face carefully.

“Is everything okay?”

Ethan sat beside her gently.

“It is now.”

She hesitated. “You didn’t have to—”

“I did,” he said softly. “A long time ago.”

Tears filled her eyes again—but this time, they were different.

Not fear.

Relief.

Ethan brushed a strand of hair from her face.

“You were never supposed to earn love by suffering,” he whispered. “Not in my home.”

Olivia leaned into him, finally letting herself rest.

For the first time in months, she wasn’t bracing for judgment.

She was safe.

And Ethan made a silent promise:

No one would ever take that away from her again.
