Part 3: The Truth No One Wanted

Ethan walked into the kitchen again, opening cabinets, scanning the counter.

“Where are her medications?”

Diane’s voice came sharp behind him. “What medications?”

Ethan turned slowly.

“The ones prescribed by her doctor. For her swelling. Her blood pressure. The ones she needs right now.”

Vanessa blinked. “She had pills?”

Ethan’s stomach dropped.

He opened drawers. Nothing.

He checked the fridge. Nothing.

Then Olivia’s quiet voice echoed in his memory:

“I couldn’t find them this morning…”

Ethan’s hands curled into fists.

“Who touched her things?”

No one spoke.

Then Madison shifted uncomfortably. “I thought they were just vitamins or something. They were cluttering the counter, so I threw them out.”

The words landed like a bomb.

“You… what?”

Madison shrugged defensively. “Relax, it’s not a big deal.”

Ethan stared at her like he didn’t recognize her.

“Not a big deal?” His voice dropped dangerously. “Those weren’t vitamins. Those were prescribed medication for a high-risk pregnancy.”

The room went still.

Diane stepped in quickly. “Now hold on—”

“No,” Ethan snapped, louder this time. “You don’t get to smooth this over.”

He pointed toward the trash bin.

“Dig them out.”

Madison laughed nervously. “That’s disgusting.”

Ethan didn’t blink.

“Dig. Them. Out.”

Something in his eyes made her move.

She walked slowly, hesitating, then lifted the trash lid. The smell hit immediately.

Silence filled the house as she searched.

Finally, she pulled out a crushed prescription bottle.

Ethan took it, hands shaking.

Half the pills were gone. The rest soaked and ruined.

He closed his eyes for one second.

When he opened them again, everything had changed.
