CHAPTER 4: THE FALL

The decision came quickly.

It had to.

The hospital couldn’t afford the scandal.

“Dr. Benjamin Hale,” the board chair announced, “you are hereby terminated, effective immediately.”

The words landed like a final verdict.

“And pending investigation for assault and professional misconduct.”

Benjamin looked up, desperate now. “Nora… please. I didn’t—”

“You didn’t see me,” she said softly.

That hurt more than anger.

“You saw a title,” she continued. “A uniform. Someone beneath you.”

She stepped closer.

“But in this room? Titles don’t save lives. People do.”

His voice broke. “I can fix this.”

Nora shook her head.

“You already showed who you are when it mattered most.”

Security stepped forward.

Benjamin didn’t resist.

Because deep down—

He knew.
