Chapter 1: The Watch

The crystal chandeliers of the Astor Estate cast a warm, golden glow across the crowded ballroom.
Classical music drifted over the quiet hum of wealthy elites mingling in their finest attire.
Elena stood near the grand archway, her chest heaving as she gripped the fabric of her burgundy vest.
A fresh, angry bruise throbbed on her temple.
A thin line of dried blood marked her pale forehead.
She scanned the sea of tuxedos and gowns.
Her eyes locked onto Julian.
He stood near the center of the room in a sharp grey tuxedo.
He held a crystal glass, completely unaware of the danger surrounding him.
Elena pushed past the oblivious guests.
She marched directly toward him.
Julian turned as she approached, his brow furrowing in confusion at her battered appearance.
"What on earth are you doing?"
Elena asked, her voice trembling but laced with fierce defiance.
Before Julian could formulate an answer, a sharp voice cut through the air.
Victoria, wearing a deep red velvet gown and a heavy ruby necklace, stormed to Julian's side.
Her eyes flashed with pure venom.
"Are you insane?"
Victoria screamed, drawing the attention of nearby guests.
"Security, get her out!"
Julian raised his hand to intervene.
A sudden vibration on his wrist stopped him.
His smartwatch illuminated with an incoming, anonymous file.
He glanced down, tapping the screen instinctively.
A crisp video began to play on the small display.
Julian froze, his breath hitching in his throat.
The footage clearly showed Victoria in the secluded library just moments ago.
She was quickly pouring a powdery substance into a champagne flute.
"Oh my God."

Julian whispered, the color draining from his face.
"She tried to do it."
He looked up at Elena, his eyes wide with horror and betrayal.
Elena did not flinch.
Tears welled in her eyes, but her jaw remained firmly set.
"Watch five more seconds."
Elena instructed him with a chilling calmness.
"And see who handed her that glass."
May you like
Julian swallowed hard, dragging his gaze back down to the glowing screen on his wrist.
Panic and utter disbelief washed over his features as the video continued to play.
