Chapter 8: The Confrontation

Marcus stepped fully into the pale overhead light of the garage.
Water dripped slowly from Julian's soaked hair onto the concrete floor.
The silver pistol in Marcus's hand did not waver.
"You always were too curious for your own good, little brother."
Marcus said, a cruel smile twisting his handsome face.
Julian stepped protectively in front of Elena.
"You killed him."
Julian stated, his voice cracking with a mixture of rage and profound grief.
"Our own father."
Marcus rolled his eyes as if annoyed by a trivial inconvenience.
"He was leaving the entire company to you."
Marcus spat, his composed facade finally cracking to reveal pure jealousy.
"I spent ten years building that empire while you played at university."
Elena peeked over Julian's shoulder.
She carefully scanned the area for anything they could use as a weapon.
"Victoria helped you."
Julian said, keeping his brother's attention locked squarely on him.
"Victoria only cares about the offshore accounts and the penthouse."
Marcus chuckled darkly.
"She was perfectly willing to slip the powder into his tea for a generous cut."
Elena slowly slid her hand into the deep pocket of her wet vest.
Her fingers brushed against the heavy, jagged shard of glass she had kept from the fire alarm box.
"The police are already on their way, Marcus."
Julian warned him, standing tall despite the trembling in his wet legs.
"Detective Vance has the video."
Marcus laughed loudly, a sharp, humorless sound that echoed off the concrete pillars.
"I will just tell them the crazy waitress held you hostage."
Marcus raised the silver pistol and aimed it directly at Julian's chest.
"And that I was forced to shoot her to save your life."
Before Marcus could pull the trigger, Elena lunged sideways.
She violently hurled the jagged piece of red glass directly at Marcus's face.
Marcus flinched instinctively, raising his free arm to protect his eyes.
The heavy glass shard slashed deeply across his forearm.
He cried out in sudden pain and dropped the silver pistol.
Julian did not hesitate to act.
He sprinted forward and tackled his older brother to the cold garage floor.
The two men crashed hard against the side of a silver sports car.
Elena scrambled desperately across the wet concrete.
She grabbed the dropped pistol and kicked it far underneath a heavy SUV.

A sudden, piercing wail of police sirens shattered the tense silence of the garage.
Red and blue lights began to flash wildly outside the ramp entrance.
