“Daniel, I can explain,” Vanessa rushed toward him.
But he stepped back.
“I saw everything.”
Those three words hit harder than any accusation.
Eleanor sighed softly. “I built this empire from nothing. I taught my son that character matters more than status.”
She looked at Daniel. “It seems he learned that lesson. But his wife did not.”
Vanessa’s voice broke. “I didn’t know! If I had known—”
“That,” Eleanor said sharply, “is exactly the problem.”
