The words hit harder than any shout.

Vanessa stared at me, stunned. “You’re ending this? Now? In front of everyone?”

“I’m choosing my daughter,” I said simply.

Ellie ran to me, wrapping her arms around my waist.

Vanessa’s eyes filled—not with sadness, but fury.

“You’ll regret this,” she said. “No one else will put up with this kind of baggage!”

I looked down at Ellie.

Then back at Vanessa.

“If protecting my child is baggage,” I said calmly, “then I’ll carry it proudly for the rest of my life.”

Vanessa let out a bitter laugh.

“Fine,” she snapped. “Enjoy being alone.”

She turned and stormed down the aisle, her white dress brushing violently against the rose petals Ellie had meant to scatter.

The guests parted in stunned silence.
