Police sirens pierced the tension minutes later.
As officers began questioning witnesses, Lina was finally helped onto a stretcher. Her hands trembled—not from pain, but from exhaustion.
“Why did you do it?” the doctor asked gently as they wheeled her away.
Lina closed her eyes.
“Because no one listens to the truth.”
In the hospital room, she finally spoke.
There had never been a pregnancy. But there had been years of control, humiliation, and emotional abuse from the Carter family—especially from Mrs. Carter, who constantly threatened to cut her out unless she “produced an heir.”
