Daniel arrived too late.

By the time he reached the hospital, his mother was already being escorted out in handcuffs.

“What happened?” he demanded, his voice shaking.

No one answered him directly. They didn’t need to.

He saw Lina through the glass window—fragile, silent, distant.

When he entered the room, she didn’t look at him.

“I didn’t know,” he said quickly. “I didn’t know she would do something like that.”

Lina finally turned her head.

“But you knew what she was doing to me every day.”

The truth hung between them, heavier than anything else.
