Chapter 7: The Breach

The subterranean laboratory shook violently as a series of controlled explosive charges detonated along the lower ventilation shafts of the Apex Syndicate silo. Red emergency sirens blared through the sterile hallways, flashing strobe lights against the concrete walls.

"Intruders in Sector B! Activate lockdown protocols!" automated female voices echoed through the facility.

Dr. Silas Thorne spun around from his holographic console, his calm facade finally cracking into panic. "What is the meaning of this? How did anyone find this location?"

"Sir, it's Arthur Carlyle!" a technician yelled over the alarms. "He bypassed our primary firewall and brought a private military strike team!"

"Foolish billionaire," Thorne sneered, grabbing a tablet from the desk. "He walked right into our trap. Prepare the extraction chamber. If we can't study them here, we transfer the subjects to the mobile offshore rig immediately!"

Inside the glass containment cell, Leo and Clara heard the distant explosions rumbling through the bedrock. Leo’s eyes lit up with sudden hope.

"It's him," Leo whispered. "Your dad is here."

Suddenly, the heavy steel door of the laboratory was blown inward by a concussive charge. Smoke filled the room, and through the haze stepped Arthur Carlyle, his rifle raised, his eyes scanning the room with lethal intensity. Behind him, Mac and his elite team neutralized the remaining syndicate guards in a matter of seconds.

"Dad!" Clara screamed, pressing against the glass.

Arthur rushed to the control console, his fingers flying across the override keyboard, but the system was locked down by biometric encryption. "Stand back!" he shouted, raising his rifle to fire an explosive round into the locking mechanism.

Before he could pull the trigger, Dr. Silas Thorne stepped out from an adjoining control room, holding a heavy electronic detonator to the back of a technician's head while pointing a sidearm directly at Leo through a secondary observation window.

"Drop the weapon, Mr. Carlyle!" Thorne yelled over the blaring sirens. "One twitch of my finger, and this entire laboratory—including your daughter and your precious little healer—gets incinerated by an internal thermite charge!"

Arthur froze, his finger hovering over the trigger. The air in the room grew thick with tension, every second ticking like a time bomb.
