Chapter 8: The Ultimate Sacrifice

"You're cornered, Thorne," Arthur said, his voice deadly calm, though every muscle in his body was coiled like a spring. "Your syndicate is dismantled. The international authorities already have your coordinates. Surrender now, and maybe you spend the rest of your life in a dark cell instead of a grave."

Thorne laughed hysterically, his eyes wild with unhinged ambition. "You think I care about money or trials, Carlyle? I am holding the secret to eternal life! With a single press of this button, I can ensure that even if I die, our research uploads to the global dark web for the highest bidder. But first... I’ll take the boy's life source with me!"

Thorne swung his pistol toward the glass window, aiming directly at Leo's chest.

"No!" Clara shrieked.

In that split second of mortal terror, something extraordinary happened within Leo. The energy cuffs around his wrists began to glow with blinding, white-hot intensity. The trauma and desperation of the moment catalyzed his dormant ability beyond anything he had ever experienced before. The glowing light spread from his hands up his arms, shattering the metallic cuffs into dust.

"Leo, what are you doing?" Clara cried, grabbing his arm.

"I'm going to finish this," Leo whispered. He turned to Clara, offering a peaceful, radiant smile. "Thank you for showing me what a family feels like, Clara."

Before anyone could react, Leo placed both palms flat against the reinforced glass window separating them from the lab. A massive, shockwave of pure, blinding light erupted from his hands. The energy tore through the quartz glass like paper, surging outward with incredible velocity.

The shockwave slammed into Dr. Silas Thorne with the force of a freight train, ripping the weapon and detonator from his hands and throwing him violently against the back wall, where he crumpled unconscious to the ground.

Simultaneously, the energy wave cascaded through the facility’s main computer mainframes, short-circuiting every server, wiping the syndicate’s data banks clean, and triggering the automated cell door release mechanisms. The heavy glass doors slid open with a loud click.

Arthur rushed forward past the swirling smoke, catching Clara as she stumbled out of the cell. But as he looked toward the center of the room, his heart skipped a beat.

Leo had collapsed to his knees, his breathing shallow and erratic. The glowing aura around his hands had completely faded, leaving his skin pale and translucent, like porcelain about to shatter.
