Chapter 3: Emily’s Truth

The ambulance doors closed, sealing Emily inside a world of white light and quiet urgency.

Andrew sat beside her.

For the first time in years, he looked like a brother again.

Not a strategist.

Not a ghost.

Just Andrew.

“They told me you were gone,” Emily whispered, her voice raw beneath the oxygen mask.

“I had to be,” he replied.

Her eyes searched his face. “All this time… you were watching?”

“Always.”

A tear slipped down her cheek.

“I thought I married a man who loved me.”

Andrew’s jaw tightened.

“He studied you,” Andrew said. “Targeted you. Used the family name, the money, the isolation after Dad died.”

Emily closed her eyes.

“I didn’t see it.”

“You weren’t supposed to.”

Silence filled the space between them—heavy, but not empty.

“I came back too late,” Andrew added quietly.

Emily shook her head weakly.

“No… you came back.”

And for her—that was enough.
