Chapter 5: What Remains

Weeks later, the warehouse was nothing more than an empty shell again.
Cleaned.
Silent.
Forgotten.
Andrew stood alone in the middle of it.
No sirens.
No guns.
No blood.
Just echoes.
Behind him, footsteps approached.
Emily.
Stronger now.
Still healing—but standing.
“You always liked dramatic exits,” she said softly.
Andrew smirked faintly. “And you always found me anyway.”
She stepped beside him, looking up at the cracked ceiling beam where her life had nearly ended.
“I used to think strength meant never needing help,” she said.
Andrew glanced at her.
“And now?”
Emily met his eyes.
“Now I think it means surviving long enough to accept it.”
A quiet moment passed.
Then Andrew spoke.
“I can disappear again.”
Emily shook her head immediately.
“No more disappearing.”
He studied her face—this time seeing not the girl he had left behind, but the woman who had survived something unimaginable.
“Alright,” he said.
For once… he meant it.
They walked out of the warehouse together.
Not as victims.
Not as shadows.
But as something stronger than both—
People who had lost everything…
May you like
And still chose to live.
The End.
