CHAPTER 2: THE MONSTER IN MY HOME

“Tell him,” my mother snapped suddenly, her tone sharp, desperate. “Go on—tell him your lies.”
Megan flinched.
That was all I needed.
“Get out,” I said.
“What?” my mother scoffed. “This is my son’s home.”
“No,” I said, standing slowly, my entire body shaking with rage. “It was. Not anymore.”
She stepped closer. “You’re choosing her over your own mother?”
“I’m choosing the truth.”
Silence fell.
Then Megan whispered, barely audible, “She comes when you leave for work…”
My blood froze.
“She said I was weak… that I didn’t deserve you… that the baby would ruin your life…”
Each word felt like a knife.
“She pushed me… held me down when I tried to stand… said if I told you, you’d never believe me…”
I turned to my mother.
Her face—no guilt. No shame.
Just annoyance.
“She’s dramatic,” she said flatly.

That’s when I realized—
She wasn’t sorry.
