The apartment felt quieter after she was gone.
Not peaceful.
Just… empty.
Megan slowly began to heal. Physically first. Emotionally… that took longer.
Some days she wouldn’t speak.
Some nights she’d wake up shaking.
And every time—I was there.
Not as the man who doubted her.
But as the man who would never do that again.
“I should’ve trusted you,” I said one night.
She looked at me for a long time.
