We left the ceremony together.

Ryan followed closely behind, already handling the stunned guests and confused whispers.

My mother stood near the aisle, her eyes filled with quiet understanding.

She didn’t ask questions.

She simply nodded.

As I carried Ellie back into the house, the world outside felt distant—like noise fading into nothing.

Inside, it was quiet.

Safe.

Ellie finally looked up at me.

“Are you mad?” she asked softly.

“No,” I said immediately. “Not at you.”

“Did I ruin the wedding?”

My chest tightened.

“You saved me from making a mistake.”

Her eyes searched mine.

“Really?”

“Really.”

She rested her head against my shoulder again.

And for the first time that day, I felt something steady.

Not perfect.
