Chapter 3: The Arrival

The heavy mahogany doors of the banquet hall flew open with a deafening crash.
The lingering murmurs in the ballroom instantly died into absolute silence.
Arthur stood framed in the grand doorway like a dark, looming thundercloud.
His expensive charcoal overcoat swept around his knees as he stepped into the room.
His steel-grey eyes scanned the lavish crowd with predatory focus.
He did not care about the extreme wealth or social status of anyone in this room.
He only cared about finding his daughter.
Across the room, the hotel security guards were trying to escort Lucas toward a side exit.
Lucas was violently shrugging off their hands.
He was shouting aggressively about his legal rights and his wife.
Arthur spotted him immediately.
The older man marched across the polished marble floor with heavy, purposeful strides.
The sea of terrified, whispering guests parted instinctively to let him through.
Lucas turned around just in time to see his father-in-law approaching.
A brief, undeniable flash of genuine fear crossed the younger man's arrogant face.
Before Lucas could even open his mouth to speak, Arthur grabbed him.
Arthur’s massive hands clamped brutally onto the lapels of Lucas’s expensive tuxedo.
He slammed the younger man backward into a solid marble pillar.
The violent impact echoed sharply throughout the completely silent ballroom.
"Where is she?" Arthur demanded.
His voice was a low, terrifying growl that carried across the entire hall.
Lucas struggled uselessly against the older man's iron grip.
"This is a private marital matter, Arthur," Lucas spat back defensively.
Arthur did not hesitate for a single second.
He shoved Lucas even harder against the unyielding stone.
"You forfeited your right to privacy the moment you laid a hand on my child," Arthur stated coldly.
Elena’s father stepped forward from the edge of the anxious crowd.
"She is safe out on the balcony, sir," the older gentleman offered respectfully.
Arthur released Lucas with a look of pure, unadulterated disgust.
He shoved the younger man roughly into the waiting arms of the security guards.
"Keep him right here until the police arrive," Arthur instructed the guards firmly.
He turned his back on Lucas entirely.
He walked directly toward the glass doors of the outdoor balcony.
Through the glass, Clara watched her father approaching.
Fresh tears of overwhelming relief flooded her eyes immediately.
Elena quickly unlocked the brass latch and pulled the heavy door open.
Arthur stepped out into the freezing night air.
He immediately saw the red, swollen bruise covering his daughter's beautiful face.
His tough, imposing exterior crumbled in an instant.
He pulled Clara gently into a deep, incredibly protective embrace.

"I have you now, sweetheart," he whispered softly into her blonde hair.
"He will never hurt you ever again."
