CHAPTER 3 — The Truth Jasper Never Knew

Jasper was halfway through lunch when his phone stopped working.

Not “no signal.”

Disconnected.

Accounts frozen.

Access denied.

At first, he laughed it off.

“Probably a bank error,” he said, sipping wine.

Then his assistant called Priscilla’s phone instead.

Her voice was shaking.

“Jasper… investors are pulling out. All of them. They said the deal was conditional.”

“Conditional on what?” he snapped.

Silence.

Then—

“On your marriage.”

The color drained from his face.

Across the table, his mother scoffed. “That girl? She brought nothing into this family.”

But deep down… Jasper already knew.

He thought back to every opportunity.

Every sudden investment.

Every door that had opened too easily.

It was never him.

It was her.
