Chapter 10: Full Bloom

One year later, the warm summer sun bathed the small brick apartment building in golden light.

Lily walked out of Oak Creek Middle School with a bright, genuine smile on her face.

She had officially finished the seventh grade with excellent marks and a wonderful group of true friends.

Chloe waved excitedly from the busy sidewalk before heading down the street toward her own home.

Lily walked the familiar, safe route back to their peaceful, quiet neighborhood.

When she arrived at the apartment building, a familiar police cruiser was parked near the front entrance.

She did not feel a single ounce of fear or sudden panic at the sight of the official vehicle.

Officer Miller was standing in their sunny living room, drinking a glass of iced tea with Sarah.

He had promised to check on them occasionally, and he always kept his kind word.

"Look how much you have grown, Lily," Officer Miller greeted her with a warm, proud smile.

"You look incredibly happy and wonderfully healthy."

"I am doing really well, thank you," Lily replied confidently, setting her heavy backpack on the floor.

"Your mother tells me you made the honor roll this semester," the kind officer added.

Sarah beamed with undeniable, radiant pride as she poured Lily a tall glass of cold, sweet tea.

"We just wanted to thank you again for helping us that night at the hospital," Lily said sincerely.

Officer Miller shook his head gently and placed his empty glass on the clean kitchen counter.

"You and your mother saved yourselves with your incredible bravery," he corrected her softly.

After Officer Miller said his goodbyes and left, Lily and Sarah stood together by the open living room window.

The wooden window box was now completely overflowing with vibrant, beautiful white daisies.

They had survived the harsh, freezing winter and returned stronger and more beautiful than ever before.

Sarah wrapped a comforting, loving arm around her daughter's shoulders.

The dark memories of Eleanor, David, and the suffocating stone mansion were completely in the past.

Lily took a deep, steadying breath of the fresh, sweet summer air.
