Chapter 2: The Truth Buried in Paper

Within minutes, the scene transformed.

The same pavement that had echoed with laughter was now filled with tension.

One of the suited men began gathering the cash—millions, neatly bundled.

The other spoke quietly into an earpiece.

The silver-haired man held up a document.

“Shell companies. Illegal transfers. Forged signatures,” he said slowly. “You’ve been very busy.”

The husband’s face turned ghost white.

“That’s not mine!” he snapped. “She stole those!”

The older woman immediately pointed at her daughter-in-law.

“Yes! She’s been sneaking around—who knows what she’s been doing behind our backs!”

But the silver-haired man didn’t even glance at them.

Instead, he crouched beside the pregnant woman.

“What’s your name?” he asked, his voice suddenly gentler.

“…Elena,” she whispered.

“Elena,” he repeated. “You just saved your own life.”

Sirens echoed in the distance.

And for the first time… the husband looked afraid.
