CHAPTER 2: THE WOMAN IN THE SHADOWS

Hours later, the guests were gone. The wedding had dissolved into whispers and rumors spreading faster than truth.
But in a quiet office behind the chapel, a deeper horror was unfolding.
Charles Whitman placed another document on the desk. “There’s something else.”
Nathan — Daniel — looked up. “What now?”
“This file includes a nurse’s report. One that was buried.”
Margaret’s fingers trembled. “What does it say?”
Charles hesitated before reading.
“Suspicious activity recorded in the maternity ward. A woman posing as hospital staff was seen entering restricted areas hours before the child disappeared.”
Emily’s voice dropped. “Did they ever identify her?”
Charles nodded slowly.
“There was a name mentioned.”
The room tightened.
“Rebecca Reed.”
Nathan froze.
“My… mother?” he whispered.
May you like
Silence.
The woman who raised him… may have been the one who stole him.
