Chapter 25: The Endless Bloom

The jacaranda bloomed again the following spring.

Just as it always had.

Just as it always would.

But this time, Mateo wasn’t there to see it.

The house felt different at first.

Quieter.

Softer.

But not empty.

Never empty.

Laura sat beneath the tree, holding a small photo in her hands.

Mateo, younger. Smiling.

Jimena sat beside her.

“He would’ve loved today,” she said.

Laura smiled.

“He does.”

Emiliano stood nearby with his children.

Sofia, now a little older, held a watering can.

“Should I water the flower?” she asked.

Emiliano nodded.

“Yes.”

She poured carefully, her small hands steady.

“Abuelo said it needs care.”

Emiliano smiled.

“He was right.”

Jimena looked up at the canopy.

“Do you think he knew?” she asked.

Laura followed her gaze.

“Yes,” she said simply.

“He knew.”

A breeze passed through the branches, sending petals drifting down once more.

Sofia laughed, spinning beneath them.

“Look! It’s raining purple!”

Laura closed her eyes briefly.

And for a moment—

just a moment—

she could almost hear Mateo’s voice again.

Soft.

Warm.

Certain.

We planted hope.

She opened her eyes.

And there it was.

Not just in the tree.

Not just in the garden.

But in every laugh, every step, every new beginning unfolding around her.

Time had moved forward.

As it always does.

But love—

love had stayed.

It lived in the roots.

In the soil.

In the hands that continued to nurture what had been built.

And as the jacaranda stood tall beneath the endless sky, its blossoms reaching toward the sun—

the legacy Mateo and Laura created did not end.

It bloomed.

Again.

And again.

May you like

And again.

The End.
