Chapter 2: The Witnesses

The restaurant doors opened.
Two men stepped in.
Not flashy. Not loud. But unmistakable.
Authority followed them like a shadow.
Behind them came a woman in a navy suit, holding a tablet.
And behind her—two officers.
The mariachi music stopped completely this time.
No one told them to.
They just… knew.
Inside the private lounge, the doors swung open again.
Renata entered.
But she wasn’t alone.
Every head turned.
Every voice died.
Even Evangelina’s smile froze mid-air.
The woman in the navy suit spoke first.
“Good evening. We’re here regarding an ongoing financial investigation tied to the Ibarra family.”
Silence.
Absolute silence.
Alonso stood slowly.
“What is this?” he demanded, forcing a laugh. “Some kind of joke?”
Renata looked at him.
Really looked at him.
Just like before.
But this time, there was no love left in her eyes.

Only truth.
“The proof,” she said softly.
