Chapter 5: The Ending That Wasn’t an End

The lounge was no longer a celebration.

It was a crime scene.

Evangelina sat frozen, her glass untouched.

For the first time, she had nothing to say.

No sharp comment.

No hidden knife.

Alonso was escorted out.

Still talking.

Still denying.

Still not understanding.

And Renata?

She stood still.

Watching.

Not with anger.

Not with revenge.

But with something far more powerful.

Closure.

Outside, the night air felt different.

Lighter.

The woman in the navy suit approached her.

“You did the right thing,” she said.

Renata nodded.

But her gaze drifted back toward the restaurant.

Toward the life she had just walked away from.

“For a long time,” Renata said softly, “I thought surviving was enough.”

She took a slow breath.

“But it’s not.”

She turned.

And walked forward.

Not as someone who had been humiliated.

Not as someone who had been used.

Not as someone who had been silent.

But as someone who finally chose herself.

And sometimes…

That is the strongest ending of all.
