Downstairs, the guests buzzed with speculation. But no one dared to leave.
Because something far more compelling than gossip was unfolding.
Upstairs, Elena dropped to her knees.
The woman who commanded empires… now looked like a child begging for forgiveness.
“I can fix this,” she pleaded. “Please, Mara… let me fix this.”
Mara stared at her.
For a long moment, she said nothing.
“You can’t fix the past,” Mara finally replied.
Elena’s shoulders collapsed.
“But…” Mara continued, her voice softer now, “you can decide what happens next.”
Elena looked up, hope flickering.
“I don’t want your money,” Mara said. “I don’t want your pity.”
“Then what do you want?” Elena asked, almost afraid of the answer.
Mara stepped closer.
“I want my sister back.”
The words broke something open inside Elena completely.
