Chapter 1: The First Collapse

John’s hands trembled as notification after notification flooded his phone.

“Account access restricted.”

“Transaction denied.”

“Trust fund suspended.”

Each message hit harder than the last.

“This… this has to be a mistake,” he whispered, though his voice betrayed him.

Clara lowered her phone slowly, her gaze never leaving Isabella.

“No,” she said quietly. “It’s not.”

Isabella let out a short laugh, sharp and disbelieving. “You think you can scare us with some fake calls? John, tell her to leave before I have security drag her out.”

But John didn’t move.

Because he knew.

He knew exactly what those messages meant.

“Clara…” he said, his voice suddenly small. “You wouldn’t…”

“I already did,” she replied.

The ballroom seemed to tilt.

Guests began murmuring. Phones were no longer discreetly raised—they were openly recording now.

“What did you do?” Isabella snapped, grabbing John’s arm tighter.

Clara took a step forward.

“Everything you’re standing in,” she said, her voice steady, “every account, every investment, every trust fund… it’s under my authorization.”

Silence.

Then a ripple of disbelief.

Isabella’s smile finally faltered. “That’s impossible.”

Clara tilted her head slightly.

“Is it?”
