Chapter 2: The Hidden Name

The wedding planner rushed toward them, panic written across her face.
“Mr. Reed, we have a problem. The venue just called—payment confirmation has been revoked.”
“What?” Isabella turned, furious. “Fix it!”
“I can’t,” the planner said, voice shaking. “They said the authorization came from the primary account holder… Clara Reed.”
The name landed like a bomb.
Isabella’s grip on her wine glass tightened. “Primary… what?”
John closed his eyes.
He had hoped—prayed—that this day would come later. Never like this.
“Clara isn’t just… family,” he said slowly.
“She is the family.”
The whispers grew louder.
Clara said nothing, letting the truth settle like dust after a collapse.
Years ago, when the Reed empire nearly crumbled under scandal, it hadn’t been John who saved it.
It had been Clara.
Quiet, unseen, signing documents behind closed doors.
Taking control.
