Chapter 11 - The Shadow Returns

The peace of the north side was abruptly threatened just before winter set in. Marco caught wind of a rumor filtering through the street informants. Dominic Russo, the loan shark whose men Vincent had chased out of the alley months ago, was quietly probing for weaknesses in Corleto’s territory.

More concerningly, Russo had been asking questions about the bakery. He felt humiliated by the loss of face and was looking to settle the score by targeting the very people Vincent had sworn to protect.

Marco reported this to Vincent immediately. They were in the Lincoln, parked overlooking the harbor. Vincent stared out at the freezing water, his jaw set like granite.

"Russo is a fool," Vincent stated, his voice laced with venom. "I let him live because the debt was petty. Now, he's making it personal."

"Do you want me to handle it, boss?" Marco asked, his hands gripping the steering wheel tight.

"No," Vincent replied, his eyes narrowing. "I told Elena they would be safe. I don't leave my promises to subordinates. Set up a meeting with Russo. Neutral ground. Just him and me."
