Detective Vance coordinated the operation from an unmarked van parked down the street from Arthur Davies' secure motel. Julian sat beside him, watching the black-and-white infrared monitors.

At 2:00 AM, a shadow moved across the motel's exterior stairwell. The hitman, a known local enforcer, picked the lock with practiced efficiency. He stepped inside, raising a suppressed pistol toward the bed.
