Chapter 18: Sentencing
A week later, Eleanor stood before the judge for sentencing. Marcus Thorne had officially withdrawn as her counsel, leaving a court-appointed public defender to stand silently beside her.
The judge did not mince words. He looked down from the bench with absolute contempt.

"Eleanor Vance, you have displayed a chilling lack of remorse. You weaponized your wealth to manipulate the law, and when that failed, you resorted to horrific violence against your own flesh and blood," the judge stated firmly. "You are a danger to society, and frankly, a danger to the concept of family."
The gavel fell with a heavy, final crack. Eleanor was sentenced to two consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole, plus an additional forty years for the conspiracy charges. She was handcuffed and dragged from the courtroom, her screams for Julian to help her falling on deaf ears.
