Chapter 14: The Signature

The fight drained from Julian in an instant. Sobbing uncontrollably and still pinned against the cold hospital linoleum, he realized there was no escape. His hands shook violently as Arthur's lawyer clicked a heavy Montblanc pen and placed it near his fingers.
Julian scrawled his signature on the dotted line, his tears staining the thick parchment. With that single stroke of ink, he legally ceased to be a father.

"Get him out of my sight," Clara whispered, looking down at her sleeping baby.
The security guards hauled Julian to his feet by the collar of his soaked shirt. They dragged him backwards down the pristine hallway as he wept. The heavy service doors swung open, and Julian was unceremoniously tossed out onto the pavement into the freezing rain, left with absolutely nothing.
