The boardroom smelled of fear and stale coffee. Julian and Richard sat at the long mahogany table of their corporate headquarters, surrounded by a board of directors that was currently in a state of open panic. Their stock price had flatlined.

Richard stood up, his face purple with rage. "You have no jurisdiction here!"

"Actually, she does," Arthur’s lead counsel stated, tossing a certified legal binder onto the table. "As of this morning, our syndicate has acquired fifty-one percent of your outstanding voting shares. This is a hostile takeover."

Clara didn't sit down. She simply uncapped her favorite fountain pen and signed the single executive order resting on the table. "The board is dissolved," Clara announced, her eyes locked on Julian. "Security will escort you out. And have maintenance remove your name from the building."
