Chapter 10 - A Home at Last

The heavy iron gates closed silently behind Victor.

He walked briskly up the sweeping driveway, ignoring the flashing police lights fading in the distance.

The grand oak doors of the mansion were already unlocked.

He stepped into the quiet foyer, the very place the nightmare had begun just twenty-four hours ago.

"Leo?" Victor called out softly, the deep tension finally leaving his broad shoulders.

Footsteps echoed rapidly down the polished hardwood hallway.

Leo ran out from the shadows of the corridor, his small face lit with absolute relief.

Victor dropped to his knees instantly, catching the boy in a tight, desperate embrace.

"Dad!" Leo cried, burying his face deep into Victor's coat.

"I am here, buddy," Victor whispered, his own voice thick with unshed tears.

"It is all over now, and I am never letting anyone hurt you again."

He held his son for a long time, letting the quiet safety of the house wash over them both.

When Victor finally looked up, Clara was standing quietly near the entrance of the library.

She looked exhausted but undeniably relieved.

Victor stood up slowly, keeping one protective hand firmly on Leo's small shoulder.

"Clara," Victor began, struggling to find words that felt truly adequate.

"You saved my son's life today."

"You saved this entire family."

Clara offered a small, genuine smile, her rigid posture relaxing for the first time in hours.

"I just did what someone who cares for him would do, sir," she replied softly.

Victor shook his head gently.

"You did what someone who truly loves him would do."

He looked around the massive, echoing foyer, realizing how cold and empty the mansion had always been.

"Things are going to change around here," Victor promised, looking down at his son.

"I am stepping back from the daily operations at the company."

"We are going to spend much more time together, just you and me."

Leo’s hazel eyes widened with pure, innocent joy.

"Can we go to the park tomorrow?" Leo asked hopefully.

"We can go anywhere you want," Victor laughed softly, a genuine sound he had not made in years.

He looked back at the young woman who had stood between his son and disaster.

"And Clara, if you are willing to stay, your position here is permanently secure."

"You are family now."

Clara’s eyes welled with happy tears as she nodded gracefully.

"I would be honored, Mr. Sterling."

"Please, call me Victor."

The dark shadows of the past had finally been swept entirely out of the Sterling estate.

As the evening sun set over the quiet grounds, the sprawling house felt warm for the very first time.

It was no longer just a wealthy, hollow fortress.

It was finally a home.
