Chapter 10: The Life They Chose

One year after the wedding-that-wasn’t, Victoria stood in the kitchen of their new home, watching Lily and Alexander make pancakes together. Flour was everywhere. Lily was giggling as Alexander pretended to be a professional chef.

Eleanor sat at the table, sipping tea and smiling at the chaos.

Victoria’s heart felt full in a way she hadn’t experienced in years.

Her life hadn’t turned out the way she had planned. She had lied. She had hidden. She had almost lost everything because of secrets.

But standing here now, surrounded by the people she loved most, she realized something important.

Sometimes the truth has to come out, no matter how painful it is. And sometimes, when everything falls apart, it’s only so that something better can be built in its place.

She walked over and wrapped her arms around Lily from behind, kissing the top of her head.

“I love you, my girl,” she whispered.

Lily turned and hugged her tightly.

“I love you too, Mommy.”

Victoria looked up and caught Alexander watching them with a soft smile. He winked at her.

In that moment, she knew they were going to be okay.

They had been through fire and lies and years of separation.

But they had survived.

And now, they were finally living the life they were always meant to have.

Together.
