Chapter 8: The Academy

Valerie arrived at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, greeted by the crisp autumn air off the Severn River. Her new uniform fit perfectly, the instructor insignia gleaming on her collar. Stepping into the lecture hall, she faced sixty midshipmen. They were young, eager, and entirely untested.

"I am Commander Val," she introduced herself, her voice effortlessly commanding the quiet room. "I am not here to teach you textbook theory. I am here to teach you how to survive when the textbook burns."

She noticed a few eyes flickering to the visible edge of a scar near her collar. Instead of adjusting her uniform to hide it, she stood taller. Over the next few weeks, Valerie established a rigorous curriculum focused on crisis management and tactical endurance. She pushed the cadets relentlessly, demanding excellence, but always paired her discipline with grounded empathy. She was no longer fighting on foreign soil; her mission now was to forge the next generation's resilience.
