Midshipman Thomas Miller was failing. Despite holding top physical scores, his tactical simulations consistently ended in disaster. Valerie observed his hesitation during drills, recognizing the distinct paralysis of a leader terrified of making a fatal mistake.
She called him into her office. Miller stood rigidly at attention, his jaw tight with anxiety.
"You're second-guessing your commands, Miller," Valerie stated, tapping his simulation logs. "Why?"
"I don't want to get my team killed, Ma'am," he admitted, staring straight ahead.
